Change of Use Planning Application for specialist Education Provider
Education and Youth Services is a specialist provider of youth training services with colleges throughout the country. When EYS moved into new premises in the bustling centre of Lancaster, they were required to submit a planning application for a change of use.
Previously, the building had been used as offices but would be reconfigured to accommodate a specialised learning environment.
Murton & Co were brought in to provide the floor plans as part of the documentation required in the Change of Use application, which was subsequently approved.
“It was an excellent service,” says EYS manager, Mary Fox. “Jonathan was very efficient and even offered to come in at the weekend, when our clients aren’t around, so it was very convenient. He kept us up-to-date with everything and ensured we got what we wanted. We were always fully consulted.”
Such is the personalised service from Murton & Co, Jonathan also helped with the wording of a Heritage Statement and Access Statement. This was required in addition to the Change of Use application as the building is a listed Victorian property.
Whilst the floor plan helped win council approval, it ended up having other uses, not least for the Fire Plan – another legal requirement for commercial properties.
“It’s been very helpful for the fire brigade when they come in to do routine checks,” says Mary. “And we’ve even used the floor plan in mock Health & Safety projects with the students!”
